Ye Olde Red Lion, Nuneaton

A large Banks’s corner pub, with accommodation, in cream render, with black paintwork and hanging baskets, also with a rear beer garden. The interior has one large L-shaped room that curves around the bar. The décor is white walls and ceiling, with wood beams and a central undressed brick hearth feature that nearly partitions the room, after which is the more dining area. There are a number of old local photographs on the walls, as well as places and brass ephemera dotted about. The bar has heraldic crests built into it from the nobles that fought in the battle in 1485. The pub does food, but doesn’t feel like a foody place, which is nice in this day and age. The seating area to the right on entry is raised up. The service was great, the clientele mixed age and seemingly both local and visitors and I spent a happy hour chatting to an American visitor on aspects of history. There was no TV and music was supplied through the radio. Beer; usual tap stuff. Sadly, there was no MILD, but to ease the pain there were seven (7) handpulls; Pedigree Diamond, which was fine, Banks’s Bitter and Wychwood Regal Lager, which were nice, Jennings Snecklifter, which was very nice, Brakspear’s Hooray Henley, Marston’s Burton Bitter and Pedigree remained untried. A fantastic place. It is friendly and serves decent beer. I think it is the best of the Market Bosworth pubs overall.

If you are looking for a pleasnt place for conversation, real ale and good food then this is it. It also offers accomodation and makes a great base to visit the local attractions. Serves roughly six real ales and has no load juke box or pool table.
