New Swan, Atherstone

The New Swan is a decent looking pub that is situated just off the main road through Atherstone. Once inside the main room is oblong shaped which runs to the rear, the bar is on the left side,the seating is narrow wood backed bench seats on the right side,the room is bare boarded ,there was a darts board to the rear left,background music was playing. There is a seperate pool room to the front front left. There were two unused pumps on the bar,this left me with a choice of John Smiths smooth crap or keg Worthington,i opted for the Worthington which was a pretty poor drink. There did'nt seem to be a lot going for this pub,probably best left for the locals. Pub visited 25/10/2014

This is a detached Georgian styled pub, part cafe and, I believe, also a B&B. It is mainly in a white rendered upper, with cream rendered stucco lower and with black paintwork around the windows and door, as well as the quoin endstones. The frontage has two sets of bay sash windows and a nice pilastered door with plain entablature. The interior has a couple of rooms served by a central island bar. The room to the left on entering through the main door is marked as a 'Coffee Room', so I immediately turned to the right and went into the pub element. The bar here is half-way up the room on the left. This room is in a white wallpaper with red pattern, with red lower wall, along with a white ceiling and a wood floor. The seating was a mix of stools and perimter seats, many were in some stripey pattern. A few local pictures adorn the walls and there is a dart board at the one end. The TV had daytime stuff on, but they do show the footy matches etc. The blinds on the windows give the room a little of the bistro feel, but overall it still feels more of a pub. They do food, though i didn't eat or see the menu so can't comment on that. There was some soft background music playing. The service was fine and the clientele was a few maturer locals. Beer; usual tap stuff with a decent Bass on handpull. This was a decent enough place. Whilst it has a modern feel with the wallpaper, stripey seats, blinds on the windows and the coffee room, it still has a good pint of Bass. I would return here, but likely for one.
