The Wheatsheaf, Farnham

Despite being clearly an old building the interior of this pub is totally devoid of any original looking features or character. The ceiling is low but there are no obvious old beams, the exposed brick fireplace and bar pillar are clearly more modern intrusions. The bar is towards the front, the pub then extends to the side and returns quite deeply beyond returning behind giving the open plan area a feel of separation. Boarded floor, modern furniture and fittings, little in the way of décor although notably the plans of a future refurb were on display. It needs one, it is currently so bland it feels like a travesty in such an old building. The barman told me they shut in August for the works to take place. Vases of flowers and tea light candles on the tables, food served, little else to say. Four handpumps, two unused, Doom Bar and Hogs Back TEA.
