The Anchor, Lichfield

A red brick Victorian roadhouse with some interesting scalloped hanging tiles at the upper level. Most traces of anything original have been obliterated inside which is now an unharmonious open plan affair with mismatched furniture and an unfortunate purple colour scheme. If the interior doesn't inspire a protracted stay then the beer is more promising with Bombardier, Doom Bar and a very acceptable Pedigree available. The welcome was also friendly on both of our lunchtime visits. There are various screens around the place and premiership footie is advertised on the prominent blackboards outside. Worth popping in for a pint of Ped if passing.

A nice traditional detached brick build, with beer garden The interior is open plan, with a small dining area (I didn't eat, but menu seemed fine)and a bar/lounge. The decor is white and wood panel, with a nice fireplace and mainly canal pictures and memorabilia on the walls and dotted around the place. The service was friendly and the clientele mixed, local and seemingly friendly enough - quite traditional inside, except for the charty music, which thankfully was played at a subdued level. Beer; tap stuff, but no MILD, with GK IPA and a decent drop of Pedigree on handpull. The pub itself is great, as are the people. The beer i had was fine, it's just that there was no MILD and the real ale choice is limited to the ubiquitus Peddy and the awful GK IPA.
