The Stumble Inn, Cannock

Doesn't look much from the road; indeed most of the exterior signage is seemingly absent, but the interior is tidy enough. This features a two-part bar, with a pool table in the smaller part by the entrance and a larger, slightly split-level seating / stage area to the left, all plainly decorated but furnished in a semi-traditional way. Also has a small front terrace. Three of four handpumps in use, avoiding usual suspects and offering Neepsend ?Lepna, Abbeydale Brewbell Wood and Ossett Big Red (£3.20).

Close to the A5 and near the new Ramada hotel, this has for a while now been a stand out for real ale in the Cannock area. Its a one roomed pub that is famous for a patron winning a competition to have Status Quo play at your local! Its a one room opened up pub with comfortable seating at the top and more tables/chairs closer to the bar. There is a small stage and they have regular music events. The lighting is low, perhaps giving the feel of a back street 'divey' (for want of a better word) rock bar, but its not really, it always appears neat and tidy. They had four real ales on, and qualtity was good, though the quality and service on visits have been a little hit and miss, but its usually a hit. So it wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea, but I personally I like it.
