Charlton Arms Hotel, Ludlow

A return the other night to what is a restaurant with modern interior rather than traditional pub, albeit one with a lovely view over the Teme. The car park has to be one of the most chaotic ever devised, with at peak times absolutely no space to manoeuvre and customers who think it’s acceptable to park their car in such a manner that your departure cannot be guaranteed. The staff are lovely, the food’s decent – at a price – but there are better ‘real’ pubs in the town centre – though Ludlow is hardly a hotbed of quality hostelries – but if you’re thinking of driving with a Friday or Saturday night visit planned, park in the town centre where it’s free after 18.00.

A very smart hotel right on the river at the lower end of Ludlow. Several adjoining rooms, most with great views of the river below and the incumbant wildlife. Very friendly and chatty staff and a good selection of 3 local ales. We tried two of them and they were very well kept. We were staying at The Cliffe at Dinham, which was very good, but I think next time we'd stay here.

A good pub, restaurant, guest house situated down a hill, through an archway and next to a river. Inside is a mainly open plan pub and a comfortable place to enjoy a drink. Outside seating at the front and also overlooking the river. 5 handpulls dispensed Wye Valley and Ludlow beers. Friendly and welcoming. I liked it.
