Trent Bridge Inn (JD Wetherspoon), Nottingham

A decent Spoons right next to the cricket ground and the football ground. We called in for breakfast so it was fairly quiet. I imagine it resembles hell when there is a match on. Good choice of beers including a few local breweries. I would happily call in again.

As noted below this is an original red brick pub that is next door to the cricket ground and uncomfortably close to the Nottingham Forest football ground. I was glad I got here early as they were using plastic glasses because later on there was a friendly football game. The pub is centred around a large bar area where there are three sets of hand pumps with 3, 4 and 5 giving a total of 12. These had the house Nottingham Trent Bridge beer and Pedigree doubled, the two GK Beers, Nottingham Rock Mild, Extra pale Ale & Supreme Bitter, Falstaff Sleepy Town & Suscon Screamer and Brewster's Aromantica. I went for the Rock Mild (£2.65) which was in good nick and more warm than cold. The plastic glass was obviously a re-usable one and better quality than any I'd seen before. More football shirts started to appear so I headed off East. This one is expensive for a Midlands Spoons but the good choice of beers makes it well worth a visit but preferably when there is no football or cricket.

Excellent Wetherspoons, housed in a famous old inn, with a sensible mix of old and new in various seating areas in an overall 'L'-shape around the two-part bar counter. Really good selection of real ales from mostly local breweries, including four from Nottingham, three from Belvoir and the Portland Porter from Welbeck Abbey (£2.50).

This is definitely one of the best Spoons I've visited. It's tastefully decorated and very comfy. This large pub has lots of different seating areas and staff are helpful and friendly. There were 10 ales on offer, I went for the Black Hole Brewery Starry Night, which was excellent.
