The Ram Inn, Nottingham

The Ram is a large detached pub at the side of the main road and a stone’s throw away from the Waggon and horses. Unfortunately it is a large corporate family Sizzler pub and has all the classic downsides associated with the chain. It has been knocked through over the years to give it one large open plan room with the more dining side to the left while the drinkers are based mainly on the right although food is served all over. The decor is the usual generic chain deal with carpets and cheap seating cushion. There are no distinguishing features inside withy only the stone ram statue adding anything of any value to the exterior. The pub gets quite busy on weekends with families and local drinkers taking advantage of the reasonably cheap prices. Because the pub is a sizzler it had most of the interior and terrible beers associated with the brand. There are about eight pumps on the bar although I have never seen more than three available and there is almost no variation. Greene King IPA and Bombardier have frequented for a long time and on my visit Doombar and A sky Sports branded pale male were on. The Sky sports beer was complete vinegar so I had it swapped for a very average pint of Doombar at £2.50. The service I received here was very bad and my pint came in a glass that was chipped on the rim that I asked to be changed. The server was so naïve and uninterested in me telling her about the pint being off and simply said she “doesn’t know about beer” which really made me mad. Overall not a great experience and just the same as so many other soulless dining pits. If you’re in the area the waggon next door is far superior and had a much better selection of well-kept beer. Really only work it if you are on a budget and want a cheap meal, aside from that no reason to bother, I probably won’t again.

The Ram is on the very busy mansfield road. This used to be a Shipstones tied house with a few rooms it has been knocked about and now has on large room with different drinking areas,there wer two real ales on the bar these were a Batemans seasonal called we've blown it and Old Speckled Hen was also on. This pub is almost next door to the Waggon and Horses.
