Horse & Jockey, Old Basford, Nottingham

There was building work in progress when I was here, with what looks like a conversion to flats. The original pub building has been retained and added to, and the pub sign (Castle Rock) is also still standing. The Horse and Jockey was originally a Shipstones tied house that was built to serve the Basford flats complex. Once inside the pub had two separate rooms,there was a bar to the right which had a pool table and darts board,the lounge to the left was oblongingish in shape and had bench seating and small stools. On my first few visits to this pub there was a decent drink of Shipstones bitter and mild on the bar. In more recent years the pub was taken over by Castle Rock brewery,i visited the pub with my wife about 7 years ago and the pubs layout was the same as it was in the early 80s,there were only two real ales on the bar,we had a drink of Harvest Pale which went down well,the other beer was Castle Rock Black Gold.
