The Roaring Meg, Newark

Despite the name of this place, the actual beer was turned round which was annoying as I like Roaring Meg. The other two ales were weak and not worth bothering with.

I first tried to visit this pub way back on 20th March 1983 but after a three hour wait on a Sunday the pub did not open. I did visit again in 1987 when the pub was Called The Vine,it was a keg Inde Coope tied house originally and then had Batemans beers on the bar. The to this day is still unchanged with a main bar room which is L shaped,a separate room to the right which has no bar in it and a pool room to the rear,the seating in the main bar is bench type and chairs,the lounge to the right has normal tables and chairs and is bare boarded. There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar on my recent visit with the pub now being a Springhead tied house,i had a drink of Springhead Robin Hood which went down well,the other beers noted were Springhead Maid Marrion/Roaring Meg and guest beers Gadds No 7 and Liverpool Organic. There was some very good background music playing. The pub was almost empty on my Thursday afternoon visit. I have never liked the look of this pub,probably too many windows.
