The Old Reindeer Inn, Newark

A village pub with some benches in front for sitting out if the weather suits. Inside it's largely laid out for dining, with reserved signs on most tables when I entered, but after buying my beer I had a look around and found the far left of the building had a number of chairs and a sofa around some low tables. There were four hand pumps on the bar with two Marstons beers and two from Blue Monkey (see photo). I went for the latter's BG Sips - not a favourite of mine, but in very good condition (NBSS 4).

Visiting from Huddersfield, I found this pub in The Good Beer Guide, and thank them for the recommendation. The cask beer was as good as they said it was. Being new to the brew I was offered a 'taster' (ask for one if you don't know the brewery). The Carvery was excellent and according to my partner 'the fish and chips are as good as ANY I've had in either Whitby or Scarborough.' (and she's eaten plenty in both resorts - don't tell her I said that!) Altogether a very enjoyable experience in a lovely pub. We shall definitely re-visit.
