The Victorian Tap, Hexham

Although flagged on Camra’s website as a Stonegate outlet I found five pulls with local brews; Firebrick and Anarchy, a cider plus a dreary keg selection but including Theakstons and not that often seen these days Kronenbourg 1664. Comprising two rooms the main bar and servery is to the right as you enter, the counter is then on the left and has the five pulls plus two T-bars as described above. The seating is eclectic with banquette, odd bucket seats and armchairs of assorted eras at sometimes Britannia tables with crude outsize tops. The ‘Tap’ credential may be enhanced by the inclusion of various pump clips above the counter. There’s a big screen on football but no piped music. The adjoining room was in use for a well attended pub quiz. The lav’s are at the back but not obvious and there’s a covered area out back.
