The New Inn, Long Buckby Wharf, Northampton

The New Inn This pub can be found near Buckby wharf/ Norton Junction lock 7. There are visitor moorings between bridge 10 and 12. The Exterior is white painted bricks, an old pub that has been extended this and that, makes an interesting warren of rooms. Warmly greeted by the barmaid who was enjoying a giggle with other staff and locals. Choice of 4 real ales, Old Hooky, Spitfire, Frog Island Best Bitter and Oakams White Dwarf. I enjoyed the Best Bitter. They clearly had a regulars who enjoyed their real ales as they had been voting for the best guest ales. Menus looked good ranging from £7 for normal scampi & Chips, sausage & mash to a 16oz t-bone steak at £14.95. Lite bites from £2.20 chips, to £5.75 for jacket potatoes with various fillings. They claimed to use all local produce. They also catered for children and even had some baby high chairs available. People who had ordered seemed to enjoy their food. The only odd thing was that ‘service charge’ was not included in their prices, this is a pub surely? If that way again we would enjoy another ale. www.gillies-inns.com 24th September 2010
