However Marstons are now keen to sell the pub to Sainsbury's as a convenience store much to the inconvenience of the regulars, there is a small campaign in the local paper and a petition on the bar to try to stop this.

A pavillion style building with what looks like a garden centre in its front courtyard most days, the adjacent bus stop on the 36 to Leeds route is named after it. A single long open plan room with a raised area in the front bay windows is equipped with benches and wicker seats and has something of an Edwardian feel. The rest of the room is a bit darker in trendy grey, cream and brown, with a bar area in more modern style. At the back are two smaller spaces, one unused the other with tables but appears to have a pool table at one time. The overal style and a range of the usual kegs reveals the target customer base to be 18-30s who can't be bothered to complete the journey to central Harrogate. In spite of the style, disinterested service and customer base there are 3 handpumps serving pretty reasonable Pedigree, with Jennings Best and Hobgoblin alongside.
