The Admiral Hawke, Lower Sunbury, Sunbury-On-Thames

When you walk into this pub you feel as if you’ve walked into a tiny locals’ pub. Perhaps you have, but if you explore at the back past the lavatories you will find a large dining room with tables set for diners. But there was no-one in there on Friday afternoon. The front bar area is fairly small, with a bare-boarded area facing you, and with a small carpeted room leading off to the right. The furnishings are fairly standard, being banquettes, normal tables and small stools. There’s a fireplace in this room, with a portrait of the eponymous Admiral above it. Unsurprisingly, there’s loads of nautical themed decor around the place. Where I was sitting there was a framed display comprising what looked like a treasure map, a message in a bottle, a clay pipe, a quill pen, and a pair of spectacles – all a bit Treasure Island. The ales on were London Pride, Doom Bar and Ringwood Bitter. A bit brown beer centric I suppose, but I thought that it was a reasonable selection. The menu was reassuringly just pub grub. Sandwiches were £4 - £5 (chips +£1), and main courses were in the £7 - £9 range, with the classic beer battered cod & chips weighing in at £7.25. This is a fairly basic pub as far as I could see, but perhaps the restaurant business takes on a greater prominence in the evenings. It’s definitely worth dropping in here for a pint if you’re walking between Sunbury Station and the riverside.

the service is excellent and the atmospher is always friendly. the food is superb and is always of the highest quality i highly recomend it for all ages.
