White Star, Liverpool

The White star is a Victorian boozer with a tile floored front bar with an ornate central U-shaped serving counter that faces some enclosed red banquettes along the front wall in between the left and right-hand entrances. The front windows and some internal screens are etched, and the walls are adorned with framed White Star Line memorabilia. In the right rear is a comfortable seating area with more red banquettes. Back in the bar there are five hand pumps, four of which were in use drawing some decent Bass alongside Robinson’s Dizzy Blonde, Otter Bitter and Black Sheep. Standard and premium keg products were also available from the polite governor who seemed to be a big fan of Genesis whose album was playing in the background. This is an interesting pub that’s worth a look.

A very good looking pub inside and out with some splendid red leather upholstery on show, firmly in Beatle land it manages to pull off an authentic traditional pub vibe. The beers were not overly exciting but my Purity Mad Goose was more than adequate for my visit.
