The Salisbury is found down a short cobbled slope in the shadow of railway arches that pass close by. This location and attractive traditional exterior is very inviting so I was quite excited to give this pub a go. Inside, the front of the pub has a laminate floor and flagstones are found at the rear. In the front left is a pool table area, and then the bar counter runs up the left-hand wall facing some high tables up the centre and small partitioned seating areas up the right-hand wall. Eight hand pumps are supported, Big Bog Brewing’s Peat Bog Porter, Theakston’s Old Peculiar, Titanic’s Black Ice, Adnam’s Mosaic, Robinson’s Trooper, Acorn Brewery’s Gorlouka and one of Thatcher’s Stan’s ciders were all available. There was an eighth cask beer, but I couldn’t read the clip, even with my eyes no further than 3 inches away. I don’t understand why you would design a pump clip that is unreadable, muppets! Anyway, I went for the Porter, which was very good. Premium keg was also available, as are pizzas until 17:00. There is no evening food service as far as I could tell. I found the service to be polite, but the pub had a transient feel, which I suppose is to be expected being so close to Oxford Road Railway Station. I’d return if passing.

Visited this 2022 Good Beer Guide pub on 12.8.22. Looks very traditional and was a friendly pub. We chose the Greene King Land of Hopportunity which was fine.

Interesting Good Beer Guide Boozer thats a little tucked away and deserves seeking out. Moments from Oxford Road Station. Traditional pub, sectioned into different drinking areas with half height wooden paneling. Lots of traditional Theakstons on - and a chosen best bitter was on. Loud music - but it was Queens of the Stone Age, so all forgiven :-)

Attractive pub. Nice inside too, feels a 90's nicotine refit which retains multiple areas via wood and glass partitions (though of course I do wonder what it may have replaced…). Of particular note is the exquisite bar frontage decor, incorporating tiles and wood carving. Elsewhere there’s chequerboard flooring, wood trim and an air of independence. A rock pub, with some classic standards playing – AC/DC, Zep etc plus the obligatory pool table in a corner room. Pickled eggs and onions at the bar, the only place I saw any in town. Five cask majoring on Marstons and regionals; sadly my Theakston OP was flat – I suspected last one out and indeed they started to replace the barrel a few minutes later; they were good enough to exchange mine without fuss, though they should have really made an effort to notice the slack pump handle when they were pouring. The replacement was OK, though I suspect the entirety of the old barrel didn’t quite make it out (NBSS 2.5). I liked the place but was not 100% convinced about its GBG ’22 status. That said, I’d be happy to try it again in future.
