This is a large pub with lots of seating at the front with views out of the giant bay window that looks onto the street outside. There is more seating up the left hand side of the bar where there is also a fire that was roaring away on my visit. It was very busy with a mix of diners, drinkers and a large wedding party that looked as though they were waiting to use St. Mary’s which is located opposite. There were a few too many children in tow for my liking, but it was a Saturday afternoon so I can’t really complain. The bar was fairly well stocked with Brains SA Gold, Deuchars, Pedigree and Caledonian 80 available on hand pump alongside a few standard draught products and I was served a decent Guinness, although I did have to wait a little longer than I would expect for the amount of people at the bar. I didn’t spot any TVs and there was no background music, but there are some board games that can be played. There are rooms available for hire and the management advertise them as boutique so they are not cheap. I’m not sure what to make of this place as it is pleasant enough, but there is something missing – atmosphere maybe. There is a quiz on Tuesday nights that I would consider going to, but I doubt a return visit will happen.
