The Crown, E8

First pub on a Monday in Homerton/Hackney that was open from lunchtime. They have extended into a mobile phone shop next door and called it the Half Crown. I dont think this side was open. (faux?) Irish bar, with some Irish humourous signs saying how they love fecking Ireland. Tayto crisps. No bicycle in the window or signs saying how far it is to Tipparary. No cask for that matter, although the Guinness was excellent and £5.50, not badly priced. An old school drinking den. The old boys, some looking quite ill, were caning it. Some lining up stellas. Lots of wood panelling and a long curved wooden bar. Bar lady was exceptionally friendly and encouraged banter.

A cosy and warm feeling locals pub, well attended and traditionally furnished. Horse racing was on TV adding to the local/Irish pub feel. The two handpumps on the bar were unused and this seems to be a permanent state of affairs, the keg options were mostly the standard usual suspects plus some Beavertown Neck Oil and Five Points Pale. Despite the lack beer interest here I found myself quite liking the pub.

Now called the crown but still retains some of it’s Irish vibe. No real ale.
