The Pelican, W11

There were four handpumps on the bar – clipped with Sharp’s Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor Landlord, and Portobello Star (£1.90 a half), a very local ale, with a fourth pump apparently unused. The Portobello was definitely the Star of the show, being the sort of standard brown bitter that I like. I didn’t see any food or menus, although it looked like the sort of place that would do food. I did see some ladies at one of the tables enjoying their coffees though. This place has been thoroughly modernised, with the front bar being very light and open. There are some standard banquettes and normal tables here, with a few armchairs at the back. Down a few steps at the back of the main bar is another room that looks as if it wasn’t originally part of the pub. There are just normal tables and chairs in here. There’s nothing really very special about this pub, but the barmaid was very friendly and happy to talk about Portobello Brewery. I support the principle of taking ales from local breweries, and although this is by no means a destination pub, it’s a comfortable enough place to stop off for a swift one.

Large corner pub but quite small inside.Very smartly converted and seem to focus on food.3 handpumps with a local Portobello beer on. Good range of keg beers as well.Lets hope this pub can stay open as its a good one.
