The Grosvenor Arms, Stockwell, SW9

This place is a gem, an oasis of peace and quiet in SW9. Great ales (the place has a Cask Marque certificate) including St.Austell Tribute plus at least one other guest ale (Deuchars and Bays have been two recent guests). Stowford Press cider and scrumpy are always available, and the Guiness is lovely. Other drinks - well, there's a great selection of whiskies and some good rums too. Plus a lot of other drinks you'd expect (and a few you wouldn't!) Decent music on the in-house sound system (they take requests), lots of games available to play (Pool, Table Football, Chess, Draughts, Backgammon, Risk, Cards...) and a mixture of regulars from older locals to younger music fans (this place is also a well-known music venue on some evenings) make this a one-in-a million. There's a pool table in the public bar and table football in the relaxed bar that has the reggae music and slouching crowd, but it took an age to be served even though there was only one other customer. The plasma screen was off even though a big match was on and the local crowd were less accommodating than suspicious. There's a standard draught selection along with, surprisingly, Stowford Press and old Rosie. I didn't like it in here and I'll not be returning.
