The Ship Ashore, Willen, Milton Keynes

The Ship Ashore is a fairly formulaic Ember Inns offering, but in the good pub desert that is Milton Keynes that actually makes it not a bad pub. At least it has a decent real ale offering and the food is the usually reliable Ember Inns fare. It doesn’t look too promising when you approach as it is part of the Willen Estate shopping area and externally just looks like the rest of the non descript brick buildings which make up this sole less amenities area to service the patrons of Willen. But fortunately, once inside, it’s the usual clean comfortable decor of the Ember Inns chain. When you enter there is a dedicated dining area to the left and then the front and right sections have plenty of comfortable seating and the area in front of the main bar is big enough for vertical drinking. The bar is in two sections with three hand pumps on the smaller left hand section and then five on the main bar. TT Landlord, Adnams Broadside and Marstons EPA seem to be the usual house ales as they have been on during my recent visits and these were supplemented by Hook Norton Old Hookey and Speculation from the Freeminer Brewery in the New Forest. I only visit for a quick one after work when I tend to get served fairly quickly and I’ve always had a well kept pint of EPA.
