The Castle Tavern, Woolwich, SE18

Wow, a 3 from Alan, I wonder how many times that happened? This remains the Castle but operates both as a pub and a West African restaurant. It was busy on my visits as there were obviously a few in to watch the Europa League final and eat at the same time. There isn’t much to recommend this place unless you are here to eat. No chance of cask and the keg options just bland lagers and a rather bizarre offering for the venue of Leffe Blonde. This place was unthreatening (happy to say given some of the reviews below) in fact very pleasant and I quite enjoyed being here watching the footy for 30 mins. Low rating because it doesn’t have anything to offer as a pub experience with a limited and poor range of beer options. It is what it is as they say.

The Castle Tavern looks like a smart and well kept pub from the outside. Once inside things go downhill quickly,i entered a very dimly lit room with the bar facing,i did'nt take much notice of the seating as i thought it would be better propping the bar up for a quick exit. There are no real ales on the bar and they car'nt even be bothered to sell John Smiths Smooth Crap which was not on,so it was a drink of Heineken lager or nothing,i had a very quick half and was pleased to get out of this pub. Not too bad, but not a very comfortable atmosphere either.
