The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich, SE10

Friendly back-streets pub without pretensions, sufficiently far from the centre of Greenwich with its crowds and perma-congestion to maintain a peaceful vibe. At this time of year, it was hosting at least two Christmas lunch parties, but there were a few seats left for us drinkers. Ale choice was Harvey's Sussex and Old (good to see it outside of the tied estate), as well as Wantsum's Montgomery, an American Pale ale. The beer was in good nick and I particularly liked the music map in the gents. Almost certainly your best bet for a pint in Greenwich.

One of the easiest on the eye pubs in this part of town, hidden away somewhat on a backstreet, it didn't stop plenty of people finding it, a mix of young familys, older locals and a sprinkling of tourists. Very traditional with a U shaped interior, a more formal area to the rear and a garden beyond that. Beers were Sussex Best, Knight Of The Garter and Wantsum Black Pig. One of the top two or three pubs in this bit of London.

A cracking little back street pub, totally traditional and liberally strewn with photos and other ephemera. It is U-shaped either side of the central bar and there is some nice glasswork at the front. We received a very warm welcome, indeed the barmaid, seeing us trying to read the pump clips immediately volunteered what ales were on, which were Three Sods Session Ale and Brockley Scottish Heavy. A very nice pub indeed. It is close to the Meridian, which is marked a few yards along the road.

A nice traditional backstreet place which has somehow resisted having its guts fully ripped-out despite its position close to the park and National Maritime Museum. So in essence we have a tight j-shaped bar with a separate food room beyond and then a sun trap garden. We took our seats in the front room and enjoyed the old-skool feel; a varnish wood bar with an upper, wraparound ‘elephant hide’ colour banquettes, baffled leaded windows and pub carpet. Of interest is the extensive collection of nautical prints (look out for HMS Bellerephon in action at Trafalgar), a plethora of display plates and other objects d'art. Piped music from the 30s to 50s, very apt for a Sunday afternoon. A lot of local punters and there was a genuine community feel which I wasn’t expecting. Four pumps with three ales on; Harvey's Best (NBSS 3.5), Windsor & Eton Guardsman and Wantsum Montgomery (3.5). £6.75 for a pint and bitter lemonade is not too bad a price given the area and I made sure to get a Maggie-style rebate when spare roasties from the end of Sunday lunch appeared at the bar. Really enjoyed my stop here and it’s well-worth a specific visit in its own right.
