The Old Queens Head, Islington, N1

A corner pub with distinctive green tiling on the lower facades, behind the bar and on the front of the counter. Also has a fancy moulded ceiling and plenty of other decorative features of interest including the lanterns, classical-style busts and hunting trophies. One thing almost absent, though, is natural light since the front windows are heavily draped and there is only a small one on the side. Extra seating is available out on the pavement, and the signage suggests that there's a dining room upstairs (but maybe only open on Sundays). No handpumps these days, so made do with a Goose Island Midway (£6.30) from a fairly limited keg selection.

A striking green exterior and an even more striking interior with some pretty plush brightly coloured tilework, the pub seems to have changed direction more than once over recent years going on previous reviews, the decor dominated by mounted busts of Roman Emperors etc, of historic interest the ceiling and fireplace seem more authentic. It's keg only now with beers from Camden, Goose Island and Kahoona among others, despite what I would term mid-range beers it's a decent pub with a good feel about it, I'd happily return.
