The Myddleton Arms, Canonbury, N1

We visited here in the aid of research for decent boozers close to stations on the Moorgate to Hertford North train line and actually quite liked the place for somewhere to catch a beer before taking the three minute walk back to Essex road station. A small two roomed corner pub with a couple of tables out front and a decent enclosed courtyard garden out the back, it does have the traits of recent gentrification as mentioned below. But this has not been overdone in my opinion and still has a decent enough pub feel for wet sales only. On that front three of the four ale pumps were in operation with Adnams Ghost Ship, Bath Ales Gem and Mighty Oak Captain Bob and we tried the latter two and they were in good nick. These were then supported by a chrome tap font dispensing some of the modern craft beers. Friendly service levels from a young bar team and it now attracts the younger members of the local community. But I will not hesitate to visit again to raise the average age a bit when travelling to and from the local station.

Semi-modernised corner pub operating under the sign of the hand but keeping its name. Retains two separate bars, the larger of which is at the front, and a noticeably awkwardly placed till between the two. Busy on a Thursday evening, with a generally young crowd in. Two of four handpumps in use, dispensing Mighty Oak Captain Bob (£3.80) and Bath Ales Gem.
