This pub has a history dating back over 300 years and was supposedly rebuilt in the 1820s. As described below, with muted music and little seating. Ales: a meagre choice of just London Pride and Oliver's Island. A third pump was unused. This is only really worth a visit to tick it off your list, otherwise it doesn't really warrant a special detour.

Tidy Fullers pub slightly off the beaten track. Nicely done inside - a mini L shape, gold and burgundy wallpaper, jumbo Charrington mirror, old picked glass leaded wood door, dark varnish bar. However there isn’t much seating, it’s really designed for late afternoon vertical drinking. Entrances on either side of the building. Discovered an upstairs bar more with a more sedate lounge-like character. Four pumps, three on; Pride, Oliver's and Spring Sprinter which was in decent nick even if the beer itself is a tasteless, insipid brew. Efficient but friendly barmaid who appreciated a thank you, perhaps some of the patrons in here lack manners? It’s worth a look. 6.5

This is a small Fuller's pub down a side street off Fleet St, accessible from the front or the rear (Primrose Hill). The main room has the bar towards the front on an offset side, the room is like a chopped off "L". To the side of the bar a few steps lead to a short corridor which takes you to a small snug named in honour of the late Daily Mail journalist Vincent Mulchrone. The room contains quotations from the man, there are also framed front pages from old editions of he Daily Mirror. According to the blurb I read, this was once a separate tailor's shop. Amongst the décor in the main room is a commemorative set of coins and stamps celebrating the life of the Queen Mother. There is limited seating in the main room, a few high tables and a drinking shelf to the front and a handful of small tables towards the rear. It was reasonably quiet during my mid-afternoon visit but I expect this pub is easily filled post work. Fuller's London Pride, Summer Ale and Seafarers on plus guest Butcombe Rare Breed. Food served, the daily special was creamy penne with chicken, bacon and mushrooms at £9. There is another formal dining room upstairs which remains unseen by me. Not a bad little place when not busy, a bit hidden away and therefore off the tourists beat, worth a double up with the craft bar, Hack and Hop up the street.

Compact Fullers house, with very traditional furniture and decor (including a grand Charrington's Toby Stout mirror above the fireplace). Small raised area at the back, plus the Snug Bar and Dining Rooms upstairs (not visited). Three small wooden patio tables out front. Three of four handpumps in operation, with Seafarers, Pride and Bengal lancer (£3.95) available. Some may find it over-refurbished, but it is certainly worth a visit.
