The Old Bank of England, EC4

This used to be one of my favourite London pubs. It has however undergone a refurbishment that has changed its atmosphere for the worse. In an effort to bring it up to date the interior has been painted with steam punk murals and strange steam punk lamps festoon the ceiling. Loud piped music interferes with any quiet conversation. Sadly it is now a shadow of its former self and I doubt that I will return.

First time to visit this fantastic bank conversion, since McMullens bought it off Fullers and I couldn’t see any changes from the Fullers days, except for AK clips where Pride and ESB used to be. AK is not my favourite tipple but I’ll suffer a pint of it for this interior.

A former regular haunt and not visited since the early 2000s. The interior was rather grand but appears to have undergone a bit of hipsterfication, judging by the photos on the McMullen's website. One of the main reasons to visit is the high, grand peripheral gallery which affords commanding views out over the hoi polloi drinking below ;-).
