Clerkenwell Tavern, EC1

This pub is a steakhouse, the steaks are cooked on volcanic rock and brought to your table still cooking. They taste terrific !! Also went there for a Sunday Lunch and would say it is easily the best Roast around here, plus all the desserts are homemade, the Chocolate Torte is to die for !!! The pub is spotless and has recently been refurbished, a cool smoking shelter too. Helen & Simon are great hosts and of course the beer is great too. What more could you want from a country pub ?

Was once called the Penny Black prior to the area going through a bit of so called gentrification. This place has it's ground floor dedicated to food service and has a downstairs cocktail bar. Very over priced and full of mockney trendy types. Gets very busy and hot at the weekends but the bar staff do serve up a cocktail called "Rock Star" that is worth trying.
