The Paxtons Head, Knightsbridge, SW1

Another Greene King pub (acquired via Taylor Walker) on the CAMRA Heritage list (**) in the local vicinity. To be fair I can see why, it's managed to retain a decent amount of the gin palace feel with lots of full-length wood panelling, lovely curved dark wood fittings and inlaid etched glass mirrors whilst the island bar is attractive in its ovalness. Six pumps greeted me on arrival; five were clipped but, get this, only one was actually on, FFS. This at least worked in favour as the Golden Hen was genuinely good (NBSS 3.5). So a classic half-arsed place that could be a real draw if professionally managed in the cellar. For now it's worth a punt for the interior which I thought felt similar to the Bunch of Grapes down the road. 6.5
