How annoying is it to be standing at an empty bar for minutes only for a member of staff to appear and ask “are you being served?”, well not unless it’s by your imaginary friend I thought. To be fair he was probably preoccupied by a private party in the back bar which seemed to be the Irish equivalent of the gathering of the clans, or an Irish gig as my mate John in Manchester would call it. Apart from that the pub was pretty empty on the Saturday lunchtime I called in. It’s a nicely decorated pub with some nice hanging lamps along the front bar which has a few booths along the left hand side. The back bar, probably more used for food or functions was probably the saloon bar when two bar pubs were still in vogue. Half a dozen TV’s were dotted around showing football so you can’t get away from that. They were on mute though with the usual Punch background musak playing. Three pumps but only London Pride was on, as it was early in the day I didn’t risk it and went for the Stella at an eye-opening £3.65

Rex has it covered below,my comments include the bar to the side of the main area, wood floor here with a tiled splash zone in front of the bar, carpeted in the rear area. Fairly dark inside with a lowish ceiling for a town pub. Routine benches and tables, plus a few high tables with stools. Red painted ceiling. A pretty functional pub nowadays although history suggests there has been a pub on the site for many years (rebuilt 1899 and 1979). There is a dartboard in the back room with a proper oche and space to play.
