Hammersmith Ram, Hammersmith, W6

Visited 02/03/26. Visited previously 02/08/23. Two hand pumps dispensing Original and one dispensing Special with no hand pumps un-used in this pleasant Youngs venue. The keg offering was Guinness, Camden Hells, Asahi, Neck Oil, Pravha, Hepcat, Estrella, Jubel Peach, Peroni, Aspall , Madri. Long bare boarded / wooden block flooring venue with a small amount of seating out the front on the busy shopping street. There are some booths in the rear right-hand corner with some regular tables served by leather padded benches and regular chairs opposite by the exit to the rear beer garden, the actual exit opposite a stone fire grate with a couple of blue leather wingback armchairs. The bar counter is on the right-hand wall mid venue and has some booth, banquette, and regular seating opposite and to the side thereof with a small amount of comfortable tall stools to sit at the bar counter. Seating in the front part of the venue was likewise a mixture of seating options, including some leather Chesterfield sofas. TV’s were tuned into cycling coverage with no sound, that provided by a mid-volume pop soundtrack. Pleasant venue but given Youngs it was a bit limited and so disappointing on the beer front.

A very smart and quite posh Young's pub with lots of tasteful woodwork (nothing distressed here!) and upmarket decor. A warm welcome though and the beers were in good nick, pricey of course but surprisingly not as bad as some of the backstreet gastro pubs in the area. The three handpumps offered Young's Original, Special and Winter Warmer. Quite a nice place if you fancy a bit of posh rather than a boozer.

Not much to add to the descriptions below. Only Youngs Original and Special on when I called. I went for the original at £5.50. I didn't really take to this pub. A couple of odd characters didn't help. It opens at 10 which is a plus if you are about early. Little beer choice and twice the price of the Spoons would make it a quick visit for me!

Originating in the 18th century as the Great Angel, taking the name of the Builders Arms in 1966 from a former local pub, the current name applied in 1996, to a building rebuilt in 1930. It’s now a very modern affair internally, with walls of rough white plaster and some bare brick, with exposed RSJs. What is original, is the use of coarse compressed chipboard applied to the whole ceiling; this is the same stuff used to board pubs up; hideous (see photo). A good impression of the pub’s interior can be seen on the website’s gallery, except of course the ceiling, for good reason. Furniture is ‘zoned’, there’s a dartboard (possibly decorative), pot plants and hanging ferns for décor, with lighting coming from hanging metal lamps and sconces with filament bulbs; customers were mixed and in a fair number. An unsurprising ale choice amounted to Special, London Original and Winter Warmer at £2.65 a half and quite nice, once warmed up, somewhat ironically. This is a bland pub, not helped by the ceiling. Is it better than the Salutation? Probably, but it’s downhill from here as you make your way back to the Tube.
