The Green Man, Stamford

A decent pub located a few minutes walk from the centre of town, but worth checking out. Attractive stone walls, a large vaulted ceiling in the rear bar, real fire and juke box all add up to a convivial atmosphere. Friendly barmaid. The only cider on the bar was Scrumpy Jack which was a bit dissapointing. Having ordered that, I then found a "specials" board with rather more interesting choices on it. Apparently these are all kept in the cellar, and were, on this occasion - Thatcher's Cheddar Valley, Biddenden Dry, Broadoak Perry, Broadoak Moonshine and Weston's Old Rosie. A splendid selection. Similarly good range of beers - Deuchars IPA, Highlander, Pride of Oxford, Centurion Ghost Ale and Netherton Cross Border. I believe this was Peterborough & District Camra's pub of the year in 2008.
