Star & Garter, Lincoln

My first cycle ride of the year came to an ignominious end here, when I checked the time of the next train to Lincoln and found that I had time for a beer at this good looking pub. Luckily it had just opened at 4pm, and even better the Timothy Taylor Landlord was in very good condition (NBSS 3.5). I was told that the present licensee is retiring, so I hope the new one will also know how to look after this beer properly. I was amused by the authentic beams in one corner, some of them balancing precariously on a modern mantelpiece (see photo). I was glad to have found this one open by lucky chance, especially as the weather was changing and my cycle ride into Lincoln would have been a cold, grim one.
