The Crown, Melton Mowbray

I got the impression that the Crown was very much the town local. I arrived here around 11:00 on a Saturday morning to find quite a few already in. It's hard to say what function the two rooms originally had but I went in the larger square front room which is where all the locals were. I noticed a juke box and a TV which was thankfully turned off. The bar has five hand pumps which had one unused, Bateman's XB, and Everard's Old Original, Tiger & Beacon Hill. I went for the Tiger (£3.20) which was in excellent nick. Everard's dont seem to have duff pubs and I thought this was another good one.

Two roomed Everards pub handy for the bus stop for the 19 bus running between Oakham and Nottingham. Popular and friendly serving a range of the Everards beers. We chose Everards Tiger Green Bullet which was in very good condition and very enjoyable. Could of spent longer here but had to catch the bus.

Everards pub retaining its traditional layout, but sensitively modernised and one bar now more of a dining area. Also has a skittle alley, the 'Church View' function room and a nice little patio beer garden at the back. Four real ales on handpump - Original, Tiger, Beacon (£2.70) and the seasonal Whakatu. Very welcoming, tidyly maintained, and well worth seeking out.
