Tap & Mallet, Loughborough

A short walk from the station on the way into town,this is Loughborough's premier ale house.A very good selection of well kept beers,many of the rotating guests are from local micros and an authentic 70's interior with comfortable low backed seating booths on the right and a pool table in the bar area.This is a totty freezone but comfort yourself with excellent ales such as 12 Monkeys from Oakham.Never rammed ,a must visit in L'boro and thoroughly deserving its GBG entry.

I agree with both Mr Boyes and Mr Sharman, the inside is old fashioned but perfectly clean and comfortable with both bar and lounge areas but, most importantly, the beer here is excellent. Our visit found 6 real ales on from a variety of smaller breweries spanning a range of strengths and styles. The pick was Oakham's 12 Monkeys, which seems to be a special edition, and ran out unfortunately. We also tried very acceptable pints of Brentwood Gold from the Brentwood Brewing Company and Moonshine from Abbeydale. The place for a quality pint in Loughborough.

A bit old fashioned inside but very clean and tidy. The attraction here is the vast selection of real ales, always in top condition. Easy to miss at night because it's not well lit outside.

To say this bar is old fashioned doesnt do the place justice. Its like the seventies re-imagined all over again.
