Horse & Jockey, Watermead, Aylesbury

After checking into the adjacent Premier Inn on a recent Wednesday evening I decided to have dinner in the Horse and Jockey. This is an Ember Inns pub with right-hand bar and larger left-hand dining area that are connected by an area with an extremely low ceiling. I spotted table football and a piano, but there are no televisions. However, there was some low background music playing and a weekly quiz is held here every Thursday. The bar supports a standard and premium keg range and I counted four hand pumps that were drawing Twilighter Fresh IPA, Fullers London Pride, Adnams Ghost Ship and Westons Old Rosie Cider. A fifth hand pump was unused. I opted for the Ultimate Burger, the biggest, which came in at just over £10. This is a very food led pub, but the bar is separate enough to get away from the diners. I’m not sure I would go out of my way to visit here again, but it is very handy if staying at the hotel. Also, I would have had breakfast the following morning but for some inexplicable reason they do not start serving until 08:30 which is way too late for most business travellers.
