Queens Head, Coalville

Taken over by a music festival with a charity entry fee on my visit. Subsequently the only cask ale, Pedigree, was served in a plastic cup for £5.05 which was by far the most expensive in the locale so I suspect a bit of price gouging; it was at least pretty palatable (NBSS 3.5) and had a mild sulphur snatch I’ve not experienced for a while. Inside of the place is fine, aquamarine blue and white with a fairly naff Linda Barker job on the servery. There’s a rear room which looks like it takes live music with full-sized plaster models of the Blue Brothers, though neither of them looked much like Belushi or Ackroyd. Hard one to call in the circumstances. 5.5

This pub is just down the hill from the Crown and it has a mock tudor frontage. The main entrance is at the side of the pub and once inside here the pub was fairly basic and was quite busy with locals watching horse racing. I think this is a Marstons house and the two real ales were Pedigree which was quite nice the other beer was Marstons Bitter. There was no food here.
