The Windmill, Wigan

a decent friendly village pub. it was more wet led than food led on an afternoon though it’s very posh and rural with quite a few dogs in. There are two rooms, the big opened out one and the side snug. Four ales on which were Swan Blonde (Bowland), a Jennings Christmas beer, Wainwrights and Tetleys Cask. The bar is divided into two by a fireplace so make sure you don’t miss the final handpump. I’d be happy enough to drink here if I was local but I suspect it gets very busy at foody times.

The Windmill is, in my experience, by far and away the best pub in Parbold for beer, food and atmosphere. Mr Fastard describes it well so I won't duplicate but it is a very comfortable place to be for either a beer or something to eat and the welcome is friendly and warm. The food which I had, red snapper with pea and prawn risotto, was excellent and well cooked. Beer selection is wide with the following on when we visited: Cross Bay Zenith IPA, Tetleys, George Wright Drunken Duck, Woodland Oak Beauty, Bowland Hen Harrier and Slaters Top Totty. All that we tried was in excellent condition. The Windmill'd be the first pub I'd head to in Parbold and it's unlikely that I'd move.
