Set high upon the moors, this country pub closes early on a Saturday evening, reflecting its reliance on its food business. Arriving at around 8pm, it felt as if I'd arrived after last orders. After a fair wait, the landlord did appear to serve me and immediately warned me that they were just about to finish serving food. He seemed a bit surprised that I just wanted a drink and I was directed to sit in the public bar area. The small public bar felt quite traditional and had just two other locals sat at the bar. The remainder of the pub was quite cosy and was clearly set aside for diners, who were all polishing off their meals or having post-meal drinks. The Rigbye Arms certainly has a nice location. But unless you're a local, you may be made to feel a little uncomfortable if you're just stopping for a drink, especially if you dare to walk in at around closing time at 8pm. For the record, the real ales were Wainwright & Landlord.
