The Queens Head, Wokingham

A rather gorgeous little historic pub in a splendid row of period houses. Nice and woody. with proper floorboards, beamed ceilings and wall panellings, with a couple of real fireplaces. A couple of old locals and some great music added to the atmosphere. A Greene King pub, so Abbot and the seasonal ale on, plus a welcome and looked-after Rebellion Roasted Nuts. Very pleasant and almost an 8.

Traditional Greene King pub not too far from the railway station. The interior is dark and cosy, but apart from a handful of drinkers congregated at the bar, most were outside either at the front or in a garden at the rear. We too decided to head out back after ordering. The landlady apologised for the reduced range, which was due to the after effects of Covid and the continued failure of business to hit pre-Plague levels. Regular ales are the house Queen's Head Bitter, Greene King Abbot & Stardust English Bitter. The guest was Loddon Ferryman's Gold. A nice pub with plenty of character.

2nd of the Good Beer Guide entries in town. Nice walk through some architecturally pretty streets. In fact, Wokingham is very pretty indeed. This is a greene king pub but they do offer LocALE brews and I went for a never seen before Twyford Tipple, after being offered an approving sample. A Greene King local heroes pub so a better beer range should be on offer, however for me the choice was a little too local and I found it a bit ordinary,Loddon Hoppit, W&E Canbera,Hogs Back Surrey Nirvana,Old Speckled Hen ,Abbot and a house beer. Queens Head Bitter.There is no doubting this is a good pub though and was rammed on my visit.
