George & Dragon, Lancaster

Located on the recently-gentrified St Georges Quay (not easy to find for out-of-towners) and close to Lancaster City FC (Giant Axe), I popped in here on the strength of it GBG 2012 entry. It’s a long narrow knocked through room with the bar at back left rear. It looks like a recent refurb has taken place and now there’s fresh wooden flooring, black and white maritime pics on the wall and light wood wall panelling at the rear, where sports TV is located. Five pumps with four ales on – A Howells Xmas Beer , GK Ruddles, GK IPA and an Adnams Xmas beer at 7.5%. I rather fancied a half of the Adnams but the barman told me it was only available in pints – so much for responsible drinking! As I was off to the footy in 30 minutes I went for a half of the Howells which was extremely good though I am sure RogerB would be tutting. The barman was friendly and there was a nice feel to the place, especially the seating by the bay window with views over the water where I parked myself. Extensive pub grub, a decent wine list, CAMRA gumpf and a quizzer completed the picture. Despite the batty policy regarding the high abv beer I’d be happy to pop in here again and would certainly use it if I were living locally.
