Jolly Woodman, Littleworth Common, Slough

The Jolly Woodman is a traditional rural country pub on the back lanes between Beaconsfield and Slough close to Burnham Beeches and is a good spot for a country drive or to visit whilst walking the said woodlands. It’s a family run Free house with a decent beer and cider range and decent traditional pub grub when I have tried it. Also has regular Jazz sessions on Monday nights. The beer quality is also usually very good and all in all the Jolly Woodman is a great countryside pub. I’m not sure how old the building is but originally it would have been a multi roomed building. The internal walls have now been removed to make one large internal space, but the original wall beams remain to provide some subdivision between the different sections of the internal space. The interior is a bit quirky with lots of different tat dotted about the space. As you enter there is a separate small seating area to your left which more resembles your Grannies front room, having non matching settee seating, a small fish tank with the obligatory single goldfish, and a birdcage. Then the rest of the pub is mainly set with dining tables. The pub also benefits from a large garden outback and several bench seats out of the front by the reasonably sized car park. There are usually 5 Hand pumps on the go and these included Hopback Summer Lightning, St Austells tribute, Windsor and Eton Knight of the Garter and TT Landlord on my last visit. The ale pumps are complemented by 10 ciders behind the bar in polypins and a nice touch is that these are sold loose so that you can take in your own bottles and they will fill them up for you.

Truly excellent rural pub. Excellent home-cooked food - and proper food rather than gastro - including wonderful range of pies. Several good ales, friendly landlord and staff, lots of nice clutter. Generally a good feel to it.
