Kings Arms, Sandwich

Plain exterior with a pleasingly traditional interior from the 60s school of plush - wood fittings, carpet, beams, big hearth fireplace, Toby jugs and hanging coppers. Shut the Box spotted. Fabulous 80s soundtrack to accompany a friendly welcome. Three cask over four, sadly my Fuller's London Pride was tasting closer to Harvey's and served in a silly long tall glass - something not quite right despite being ostensibly cellared well (NBSS 2.5). Whilst slightly out of the way it’s worth a look if you're in Sandwich and you've done the two GBGers.

Venerable hotel on the western side of the compact town centre, with quite a plain exterior but very traditional inside. Very much a food-led establishment, with almost all tables in the bar area and rear room laid up for those dining. However, there are some stools along the counter but I secured a seat near the impressive old fireplace (although the the single log on the disproportionately small hearth wasn't doing much...). Just Harvey's (£4.70) from a pair of handpumps, with a reversed Ghost Ship clip on the other handle.
