The Castle, Ryde

Refurbished High Street pub, with a staple-shaped bar supplemented by another small area up a couple of steps at the back (in use by a DJ playing some old-time reggae, ska and calypso when I popped in on a Saturday evening). Limited amount of traditional furniture and restricted decor. Four handpumps on the counter, but these offered a selection of Fuller's / Gale's beers: Pride, Quintessentially Pale Ale, ESB and HSB (£3.60).

The Castle is a largish corner pub that is in the main shopping area of Ryde. Once inside we went in the room at the front which was more like a bar,this room was fairly basic but comfortable enough it was also fairly quiet on our early dinnertime visit. When we went in this pub it was a Gales tied house and there were three real ales on the bar our first drink was Gales Butser bitter and this was a very nice drink we then had a drink of Gales best bitter which was just as good the other beer was Gales HSB. This was a decent pub to sit and relax over a decent pint. Pub visited 18/2/1999
