The Rose in June, Copnor, Portsmouth

Traditional two-room boozer near Fratton Park and the pub’s exterior is painted blue and white, presumably in homage. U-shaped bar (note the red-backlit Double Diamond inscription) serving separate lounge and public rooms. The quiet(er) lounge was plushly carpeted with leatherette banquettes and wallpaper last seen in Terry & June's gaff. The vibrant and more basic public bar had Six Nations on a large TV and a dart board. Inevitable Portsmouth FC ephemera dotted around the pub. Apparently there is a large back garden but I didn’t notice (too busy watching the rugby…). Seven ales, a decent mix; Fullers HSB, Ballards Mild (good shape), Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Brains Bread of Heaven, Irving Frigate, Ringwood Best, Upham Stakes. Large selection of rolls in the public bar, my small ham salad for a bargain £1.20 hit the mark. Punters and staff seemed friendly. An excellent local well worth the walk from town, I’d put this one down for a revisit next time without hesitation.
