An old pub hidden beneath a substantial modernisation, both outside, with a hideous colour scheme, and inside, with badly stripped floorboards and strange décor. It does at least manage to retain some level of character and actually is not totally unpleasant. Beers from Fullers with a guest, at time of visit meaning London Pride, HSB and a seasonal beer, with Proper Job as the guest, except it promptly ran out.

A former Brickwoods pub, this town centre inn is comfortable and welcoming. The bar, a knock-through of smaller rooms, is mostly carpeted and has coal effect fires in brick chimneys, while the bar front is tiled. The locals are civilised, the staff welcoming, and the pub is dog-friendly. Free wifi is available. There were 3 ales on, and I found the Courage Best to be surprisingly good. Worth spending a relaxing time here.
