Cross Keys Inn, Gloucester

Small, old corner of a building, ecclectic seating of sofas and seats, a real mish-mash, very different & done in a nice way. Its a bit cramped inside. Describes itself as 'the quirkiest snug bar in Gloucester' Real ales, ok, but a bit warm

A small pub reached from the narrow Cross Keys Lane or from the rear via Longsmith Street, it shares some of the premises with a shop. The lower front bar is tiny but manages to fit in a few tables, a sofa plus a piano and machine, the big screen TV and Juke box are wall mounted. There are more rooms apparently but I stayed in the bar. It’s obviously an old building with lots of time-worn black beams and shows signs of numerous makeovers. Only one handpump, serving beer from the local Gloucester Brewery but a row of clips showed a good range of guests from small breweries. The juke box seems to be stuck permanently on the loud setting, not much room for decoration so a flashing light pipe snakes its way round the counter. From the outside you can see the extent of the pub but only the small bar seems to be open. It’s still in the GBG.

A weird experience,no one behind the bar,no customers,an indy band practicing in the section away from the bar and at ear splitting volume.This is an old attractive building down a side alley,but otherwise bore no resemblance to the description in the 2011 GBG.Shureley shome mishtake.....
