The Pelican Inn, Gloucester

Not a lot to add to previous reviews: friendly and efficient service, excellent beers in good condition, pleasant atmosphere; even the Sunday papers so that I could catch up on the football. Just a very good pub, which I wish I'd stayed in rather than catching a train to Cheltenham. (Surprising not to have bumped into Soup Dragon when I was here - hope he doesn't think I'm stalking him.)

This is a Wye Valley pub, well it has been since 2012. It is a corner pub, with patio area, which is said to date back to the 17th century. The pub is irregular in shape and in white brick, with black paintwork around the door and windows. The interior has a couple of rooms, which are in white, wood panel and brick, with a white ceiling and wood flooring. The bar room has the serving bar facing you and the other room is set at a bit of an angle to it. The bar has green bench seats, a few old photos and prints on the walls, as well as some books. There is also a brick fireplace, with stove fire. The other room also has green bench seating, with old photos and prints, but with a tiled fireplace. There is no TV, the music was very soft from a charity jukebox. The service was fine and mature, friendly locals seemed to be the order of the day. Beer; usual tap stuff, with real ciders - on handpull there were Wye Valley HPA , Butty Bach, Bitter (very good), Dorothy Goodbody's Harvest Hop (very good), Country Ale (even better) and a great stout. Simply class - i could stay here for the day.

Friendly sociable barman served up excellent Butty Bach. Good boozer.

Quite a find, a Wye Valley owned pub in Gloucester, only open since June 2012 in this guise. It lurks at the back of the Cathedral in a small back street. A two room set up one with a counter one with a juke box and machine in the other. Fairly minimal in décor, the odd print, map and Wye Valley ad's plus bundles of hops above the counter. Traditional furnishings of benches and wooden tables and chairs on bareboards. There's a nice open fire in the wall dividing the two rooms and there's a selection of papers and magazines for the customers. Excellent.
