The Chequers Inn, Uckfield

Fine-looking old inn opposite the equally attractive parish church, and both in a quieter spot these days following construction of the A22 bypass. Still operating as a hotel and restaurant with an extended dining room, but there's a nice little bar with a grand fireplace (which the hosts were lighting just after I arrived) in one corner of the building. Run by Greene King, so it was a slight surprise to find an excellent Harvey's (£4.75) in addition to the expected IPA from two of the three handpumps.
